The Bolt and Zest reviews are still fresh; yet Tata Motors is ready for its next launch. Tata Motors much anticipated small hatchback – the Zica – will see the light early next year. Zica was known earlier by its internal codename ‘Kite’. The new Zica follows Tata’s new family design language which makes it look different from the Zest and the Bolt.

The unique features found in Zica

  • The hatch is powered by all new 3-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. Tata Zica is expected to have two new engines. A new 1047cc, ‘Revotorq’ 1.05 L three-cylinder diesel motor is likely. This is expected to produce 70 PS of power at 4,000 rpm, a maximum torque of 140 Nm at 1,800-3,000 rpm and will be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and an optional AMT as well. Tata Zica is also expected to have a 1.2-litre 1199cc, 3-cylinder Revotron petrol motor which will churn out a power of 80 PS at 6,000 rpm and maximum torque of 114 Nm at 3,500 rpm.
  • Based on the Tata’s DesignNext design language, the vehicle has been designed from Tata’s design studios based out in Pune, UK and Italy.
  • Zica is based on the tweaked Xo platform.
  • The Tata Zica will get a new rear suspension system – non-independent, twist beam axle.

Exterior

Zica gets a vertically aligned honeycomb grille at the rounded front end with sharp-looking headlamps and black inserts. There are lines that run along the beltline of the car which are well supported by the sharp crease lines on the flanks. The tail lamps are large wraparound and petal-shaped. Tata has provided quite a prominent rear spoiler above the hatch. It gets alloy wheels, a few classy chrome bits on the grille and around the fog lamps as well. There are parking sensors at the rear and the hatch gets a rear wiper too.

Interior

The interiors have dual-tone colours. The dashboard carries all-new design. The instrument cluster is divided into two separate round units and a small multi-function display will be placed between them. The other features are split folding rear seats and a lower-spec Harman ConnectNext infotainment system. It will also get the latest-generation Electric Power Steering (EPS) unit.

Safety features

Safety features such as ABS, EBD and dual front airbags are expected to be a part of the top-spec trim.

Competition

The Zica hatchback will be positioned at the lower end of the B-segment and will compete with the likes of the Maruti Celerio.

Tata Motors is expected to officially unveil the Zica hatchback in few days and launch the car early next year.
